LEVEL 1 FORTITUDE VALLEY
CURRENT LEVEL TWO
Thanks everyone for your hard work over the last 3 weeks, and a big 'well done' to you all for what you managed to achieve! We covered a lot of content in a very short time, and ended up with the longest sequence executed by level 2 dancers all year, as follows: Touch and turn Basic Texas Tommy (change hands) Basic Inside turn Basic Circle Swing out Basic Outside turn Basic Sushi roll Basic Circle Awesome work, we look forward to seeing you again in the new year. Nick, Renee & Leigh.
LEVEL 2 FORTITUDE VALLEY
SPECIALTY CLASS
A little solo jazz was just the thing for such a steamy night, we taught you the 'Helidon Stroll' (as choreographed by Vicki early 2009). This fun little routine includes the following moves: The stroll (of course), solo charleston, stomp brushes, fish tails, hallalujah rocks, drunken sailor walks, hand-to-hand charleston, the broken leg, drop lunges, the scarecrow, itches, spank the baby, truckin', knee slaps, ride the pony, and more... For those of you who joined us, we hope you had as much fun dancing this as we did. For those of you who didn't, and are intrigued as to what these interestingly-named moves could possibly be, keep reading this newsletter and be sure to catch some solo jazz classes in 2010.

BALBOA LEVEL 2 - CLASS REVIEW
In our final class for 2009 it was all about the dancing, and we had some variations for you to to spice up your swing. Our vanilla sequence was 2 basics, transition step into crossbreaks, into the maxie dig step, into lollies with a release into a throwout, breakturn to closed with travelling triples for the leads.
In our crossbreaks we had a circle slide for the follows, and a split slide for the leads. To achieve the circle slide, the ladies danced beats 5,6,7 as usual. Our movement from here was step 1, cross 3, circle 4-5-6, step 7. From there we could move back into crossbreaks. The lead's mantra for the split slide was step, cross, slide, collect on beats 1, 3, 5 and 7. You stepped outside leg across for beat 3, slide crossed legs square for beat 5 and continued the dancing on beat 7. Leads could do the circle slide, follows could also do the split slide, and both slides can be done on both legs.
In lollies, we had a variation for the follows so the leads stood back and watched you move your hips. The variation came after the kick. Our mantra was behind-and, up-and, cross-and, up. From here we could repeat or go back into our kick. After we kicked we stepped that left leg under our right hip, freeing up our right leg to bring it up into a flamingo. We then stepped that raised right leg across under our left hip. This freed up our left leg and we could lift it into a flamingo.
Our final variation was in the conclusion. After the breakturn, the leads stepped beats 1-2, and moved forward with travelling triples. The rhythm was step, step, shuf-fle-step, shuf-fle-step, shuf-fle-step, with a basic on the end.
As this concludes our balboa classes for the year, Mark and I would like to thank you for your support and dedication to balboa over the last 12 months. Have a safe and merry holiday period, and we look forward to seeing you all back in February. Mark & Tia.

THANKS FROM SUE -
THANK YOU A big thank you to all the volunteers who have helped out at Swing Shack this year. Whether you were on the door, DJing or helping out at the end of the night I would like to say thank you for all your efforts! It may not seem like much to you, but it helps me a lot and I really appreciate it. To all the DJs - thank you for your wonderful DJing throughout the year and hopefully I'll see you all next year for some more DJing magic.
See you all next year!!! The first Swing Shack for 2010 is 22 January, so mark it in your diaries now (if you're going to Camp Oz, this is a great way to refresh your dancing before heading to Adelaide!).
Sue :-)
NEW CLASS SCHEDULE -
As mentioned earlier we have decided to make some changes in the class schedule for 2010. For those of you who have been hanging around for a bit - don't panic! This new system is actually designed to make it easier for new dancers to keep on dancing. No longer will you need to change nights or venues once you finish Level 2. Level 1, 2 and 3 classes will be offered on both Monday and Wednesday nights. Here is a taste of how the new system will work....
______________
Toowong - Monday Nights 7:00pm to 8:00pm - 6 weeks of Level 2 followed by 6 weeks of Level 1
8:30pm to 9:30pm - Always Level 3 ____________
Wednesdays at Valley 7:00pm to 8:00pm - 6 weeks of Level 1 followed by 6 weeks of Level 2
8:30pm to 9:30pm - Always Level 3
____________
Advanced / Specialty classes will be held at Danceworks on the Swing Shack nights from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. If you pay for this class you will not need to pay an additional fee for Swing Shack entry.
___________
Balboa will remain the same.
___________
We will also introduce some more exciting events to you in the new year along with the return of the Bal Lounge at its brand new venue at the Sky Bar at Queens Arms Hotel, Fortitude Valley. ___________________
Of course along with all this comes the news that after no increases in class prices (1st class) in at least 4 years we are now faced with having to put the prices up marginally. The standard class prices will be $14 Adult & $12 Concession for drop in classes.
Of course we will have all this information out to you in much more detail in the new year but we just wanted to give you a heads up about all the new changes a coming!
